Background

Lee Rivas

President, Clinical Solutions

Lee Rivas is President of Clinical Solutions for Elsevier and CEO of the Health Care and Public Sector businesses for LexisNexis® Risk Solutions. Lee was appointed President of Clinical Solutions in 2016.

Lee has lead the Health Care and Public Sector groups at LexisNexis Risk Solutions since 2012. During that time he and his team drove above-market growth as a result of organic and inorganic strategies that positioned LexisNexis as the leader in identity intelligence, provider data, claims data, and analytics.

Previously Lee served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Screening at LexisNexis Risk Solutions, head of Sales for that division, and Senior Director of Strategy. Lee joined LexisNexis in 2006 from the strategy consulting firm McKinsey & Company, where he was an Engagement Manager. Before McKinsey, he spent five years in the U.S. Army, where he served in a variety of leadership roles, including tank platoon leader and reconnaissance platoon leader.

Lee earned a bachelor’s degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he was a member of the academic honor society Phi Kappa Phi. He holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School. He and his family live in the Atlanta area.

Cindy Cook

Chief Marketing Officer

Cindy is Chief Marketing Officer for Clinical Solutions and Education. She is responsible for marketing Elsevier's expanding portfolio of digital and print products and solutions for the healthcare industry. This new role will help form a tighter connection between the medical, nursing and pharmacy education and professional practice.

Previously, Ms. Cook was Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer at Cengage Learning, a $2 billion higher education publisher. She oversaw Cengage Learning's marketing and external communications activities. She was a member of the senior leadership team helping drive company direction and strategy including helping drive the company's transformation from print to digital.

In her prior roles, she has over 20 years of expertise in global consumer products at Fortune 100 companies, with specific experience including interactive entertainment and digital media. Previously, Ms. Cook served as Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer of Vivendi Games, creator of some of the industry's largest and most profitable games including World of Warcraft. She ran marketing for the company and was directly accountable for the mobile and casual games divisions. She also drove strategy for the company and was a member of the senior management team that completed a successful merger with Activision, creating Activision Blizzard, the world's largest videogame publisher.

Ms. Cook was one of the pioneers in digital music, launching the first commercial download and subscription services at Universal Music Group, the world's largest music company. Earlier in her career she held a variety of management roles at Pepsi Cola, Seagram and General Electric.

Ms. Cook earned B.S.in Finance from Lehigh University and an MBA in Marketing from New York University's Stern Graduate School of Business. She is a member of the Lehigh University, College of Business and Economics Dean's Advisory Council and serves on the SIIA Board of Directors.

Peter Edelstein, MD, FACS, FASCRS

Chief Medical Officer

Peter Edelstein, MD, FACS, FASCRS, is board certified by both the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery.  Prior to joining Elsevier Clinical Solutions as Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Edelstein was as an award winning educator and surgeon who practiced in both academic and private settings.  He then spent greater than a decade in Silicon Valley serving as an executive (including President & CEO) in venture-backed, medical device start-up companies.  Next, he served as a physician executive leader in a large non-profit health system. Dr. Edelstein then joined Elsevier, helping to guide MEDai, a leading clinical predictive analytics company.  “Dr. E” is a nationally recognized expert and engaging speaker on patient empowerment and is a regular on television, radio, and in print media as well as author of “Own Your Cancer.” In his role as Chief Medical Officer for Elsevier Clinical Solutions, Dr. Edelstein particularly focuses in areas related to healthcare solution marketing and strategic partnerships.

Karthik Krishnan

Senior Vice President and General Manager, Global Clinical Reference and Workflow

Karthik Krishnan is the Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Global Clinical Reference and Workflow business, which includes ClinicalKey, Drug Information, Care Planning, Order Sets and InferMed. He is currently on the board of Urban Upbound, a nonprofit focused on transforming the lives of people in public housing in New York City through job training, financial fitness and college education.  He is an adjunct professor at New York University – Stern School.  He is a National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) governance fellow.

Karthik has been with the RELX group for over 9 years in roles including SVP & GM Global Pharma and eCommerce, and VP Interactive Media and Sales Management.  Prior to RELX, Karthik was Principal at Agilone responsible for building a relationship marketing practice aimed at maximizing Customer Lifetime Value. He was also involved with the William J. Clinton Foundation and was recognized by President Clinton for his leadership in launching the Urban Enterprise Initiative. He has also spent a number of years at Rodale, publisher of healthy active living magazines and books, launching award winning websites (backpacker.com and menshealth.com), developing eCommerce channels and forging business partnerships with MSN, Nissan and AOL.

Karthik has an MBA from New York University - Stern School. He received the distinction Stern Scholar and was inducted to the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society. He has a Bachelors in Engineering from Coimbatore Institute of Technology and was conferred the Student of the Year and Best Outgoing Student awards.  He is also certificated in Design Thinking (Human Centered Design) by Stanford University.

Jeff Keating

SVP Technology

Jeff Keating joined Elsevier in 2010 as VP Software Development & Architecture for Elsevier Clinical Decision Support where he headed up software product development. In 2014 he was promoted to SVP Software Engineering Healthcare, leading technology and product development for Elsevier Clinical Solutions and Education. Because of his strong background leading product technology teams, he has actively led, and continues to participate in, the key transformation of the technology organisation into a core-team focused user-centric organisation, dramatically improving cost efficiency whilst continuing to help the organisation grow its online Data and Product revenues.Prior to Elsevier Jeff held leadership roles with Thomson Reuters Healthcare, as well as a number of Healthcare startups in the US.

Laura Kepich

Finance Director

Laura Kepich serves as the Finance Director for Clinical Solutions within Elsevier.  Laura reports to Stuart Whayman (CFO, Elsevier) and partners with Jay Katzen (President, Clinical Solutions) and his management team in the commercial and financial areas of the Clinical Solutions business.

Prior to joining Elsevier in January 2015, Laura worked for Ricoh, a global manufacturer and supplier of digital office equipment and software, where she held senior finance roles supporting the business.  Prior to joining Ricoh, Laura was with IKON, and prior to IKON she worked with PriceWaterhouseCoopers where she held roles in both audit and transaction services.

Laura is based in Philadelphia and holds a Bachelor of Arts from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster PA with a dual major in Accounting & French.  Laura is a member of the PICPA.

Sonika Mathur

Senior Vice President and General Manager, Patient Engagement

Sonika Mathur serves as Senior Vice President & General Manager, Patient Engagement.  In her current role, Sonika is responsible for leading the overall Patient Engagement team in the Clinical Solutions division of Elsevier. Her mission is to drive the Patient Engagement team forward and oversee all areas of development for patient engagement.

In Sonika’s previous role, she served as Vice President, Strategy and Business Development for the Clinical Solutions group within Elsevier. She was responsible for the overall strategy of Clinical Solutions as well as leading strategic partnerships, M&A, portfolio optimization, strategic pricing and innovation.  

Sonika joined Elsevier in 2011 in its health sciences corporate strategy group and took a business unit strategy role in 2012, where among other accomplishments she led the acquisition and integration of the ExitCare patient education business.  

Prior to joining Elsevier, Sonika was a Senior Manager in Deloitte Consulting’s Strategy & Operations group focusing in healthcare and life sciences. Prior to Deloitte, she worked for several boutique healthcare consulting firms, including Healthlink and First Consulting Group, where she specialized in hospital IT projects. Sonika has over 15 years of strategy and operations experience in healthcare and her past clients have included academic medical centers, medical device and pharmaceutical companies, and government run health providers/plans. Her work has focused on growth strategies, go to market, operations improvement, business process redesign, governance design, health policy analysis and health economics.


Sonika is based in Philadelphia and holds a Masters in Public Health from Columbia University as well as B.A. in Biology and Psychology from the George Washington University.

Hajo Oltmanns

Senior Vice President and General Manager, Performance Management

Hajo Oltmanns is the Senior Vice President and General Manager responsible for the Performance Management business within Elsevier’s Clinical Solutions group.

Hajo builds on more than 18 years of experience in healthcare, information businesses, management, strategy, and business development. Hajo has been with Elsevier for almost ten years. During this time he was responsible for customer support, engagement, and training across Elsevier Clinical Solutions, lead  Elsevier’s care planning and clinical documentation as well as order sets business, and was the Senior Vice President Strategy and Business Development for Elsevier Health Sciences. Hajo joined Elsevier in the Elsevier strategy team based in Amsterdam.

Prior to joining Elsevier, Hajo worked in management consulting at the Boston Consulting Group in Chicago, where he focused on strategy development across different industries, including healthcare. In addition, Hajo has worked for the investment banking division of Credit Suisse First Boston in London as well as in trade publishing and journalism in Germany and New York.

Hajo holds an MBA with distinction from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management where he was a Siebel Scholar, and an MA (Hons) from the University of Edinburgh. He is based in Philadelphia and Atlanta.

Scott Schlesner

Senior Vice President of Sales

Scott Schlesner is the Senior Vice President of Sales for the Clinical Solutions Division of Elsevier. He has over 25 years of experience with both emerging and established companies in the healthcare industry, including Baxter, GE Healthcare, Wolters Kluwer Health, and Leica Biosystems. He has a strong foundation of knowledge in healthcare information technology, histology/pathology, radiology, cardiology, surgery and nursing. Scott has a proven track record of building and leading consultative, customer-focused teams responsible for promoting solutions that improve patient outcomes, work-flow productivity, and profitability for healthcare providers. Scott holds a B.S. degree and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Jonathan Teich, MD

Chief Medical Informatics Officer

Dr. Jonathan Teich is chief medical informatics officer for Elsevier Health Sciences. He has been active in medical informatics and health information technology for over twenty years. Dr. Teich's responsibilities include a combination of vision, strategy, industry and government outreach, and broad product design for the continuing transformation of Elsevier's huge content base and publication resources into multi-level electronic reference, highly interactive clinical decision support (CDS), and other knowledge-based tools to support direct clinical practice and healthcare delivery.

Dr. Teich is an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard, and a board-certified attending physician in emergency medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH). He was the founder and first director of the Clinical Informatics Research and Development department at Partners Healthcare System. He was the primary designer of many of BWH's clinical information applications, including the computerized physician order entry system, ambulatory record, clinical decision support systems, emergency medicine systems, and the Handbook electronic information library.

Dr. Teich has authored or co-authored over 100 papers, books, and other publications in the field of medical informatics and healthcare information systems, with a particular concentration in CDS He is a co-author of the book, Improving Outcomes with Clinical Decision Support: An Implementer's Guide. He co-chaired the panel responsible for the HHS-sponsored Roadmap for National Action on Clinical Decision Support, and from 2009-2012 he served as a subject-matter expert on CDS matters for the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC). He has served on the board of directors of AMIA, HIMSS, and the eHealth Initiative, and is a fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics and of HIMSS. Dr. Teich was educated at Caltech, MIT, and Harvard Medical School.

Michelle Troseth, MSN, RN, DPNAP, FAAN

Chief Professional Practice Officer

Michelle is the Chief Professional Practice Officer of Elsevier Clinical Solutions. She has over 25 years of experience in co-designing and implementing evidence-based practice and technology infrastructures to support patient-centered care and interprofessional integration at the point of care across hundreds of healthcare settings.

Michelle is currently co-chair of the TIGER Initiative Foundation (which stands for: Technology Informatics Guiding Education Reform) Board of Directors; she served as the TIGER Summit Program Chair, and co-led a national collaborative on Usability and Clinical Application Design. She is also the co-chair of the American Academy of Nursing's Informatics & Technology Expert Panel. Michelle is also on the Executive Committee as Treasurer for the National Academies of Practice (NAP) whose mission is to promote excellence in practice of healthcare professionals and quality healthcare for all through interprofessional collaboration in service delivery, research, education and public policy advocacy.

Michelle has authored several chapters/articles and speaks on professional practice, evidence-based practice, technology and cultural transformation.

Linda Belfus

Senior Vice President and General Manager of Content

Linda Belfus is Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Clinical Solutions Content organization. Linda is responsible for the Books and Clinics (Review Series) P&Ls as well as Content strategy, creation, acquisition, development, evidence, and editorial workflows across several key content types, including Point of Care, Patient Education, Order Sets, Drug Information, Clinical Practice Guidelines, Books and eBooks, and Clinics.

Linda's focus is on creating fresh approaches to content creation and delivery that fit users' workflows and address their needs, new business models, and incorporation of a strong evidence base across the Content portfolio.

Prior to joining Elsevier in 2002, Linda co-founded and served as President and CEO of Hanley & Belfus, a Philadelphia-based medical publisher that produced a wide range of medical content and respected brands such as The Secrets Series and Crush Series that are still thriving today. The company was acquired by Elsevier in 2002.

Linda received a BA in English Literature from Penn State University and an MA from Villanova University. She is based in Philadelphia.
