Introducing the award
This award is an initiative of Elsevier Publishing that aims to recognize the talent and dedication of researchers worldwide.
One of the criteria used in the selection of the winners is the number of articles published in the Scopus authorship and citations. Since the creation of the Scopus Award in 2006, the award has promoted many Latin American researchers.

Background
The Scopus award was granted to researchers - affiliated to institutions at the country - that had the highest number of articles published and citations received in the major research areas of the country.
Application Process
The 2012 Scopus award was granted to researchers affiliated to institutions in Mexico that had the highest number of articles published and citations received in the main areas of knowledge in Scopus.
The Scopus Author Identifier tools, Match / unmatch Authors , H Index and Citation Tracker are used to refine the results of searches and get the numbers of articles and citations.
Judges
The local consortium (S&T Ministry) / National Research Institute evaluated the list and checked the awards winners’ names with the national researchers repository.
