Notes for authors
You can submit as many abstracts to the conference for review as you would like.
If, after the review by the committee, you have more than one paper accepted for the conference, you will need to register to attend and pay an additional paper fee for each additional paper (i.e., for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th papers – not the 1st). Please note this is for papers that you are the presenting author of, not papers that you are co-author of.
When you submit your abstract, you can select if you would like your work to be included in Science Talks, if accepted for the conference.
Once the paper is accepted, at least one of the authors must register for the conference and present the paper at the conference.
Abstracts of all accepted contributions will be included within the abstract system which will be distributed to all registered conference participants.
Successfully submitted abstracts will be acknowledged with an electronic receipt including an abstract reference number, which should be quoted in all correspondence. Allow at least 2 hours for your receipt to be returned to you.
For revisions or queries regarding papers already submitted
If you do not receive acknowledgment for your abstract submission or you wish to make any essential revisions to an abstract already submitted, please DO NOT RESUBMIT your abstract, as this may lead to duplication. Please email the Content Coordinator(opens in new tab/window) (Please do not email credit card information under any circumstances) with details of any revisions or queries. Please quote your reference number if you have one.

Diamond and Carbon Materials Young Scholar Award The International Conference on Diamond and Carbon Materials “Young Scholar Award” recognizes predoctoral researchers in the early stage of their career and wishes to offer them an opportunity to highlight their recent results on an international stage through a combination of oral and poster presentations.
Who can apply? All early stage researchers who do not have a doctoral degree (e.g. D.Sc, Ph.D) at the time of the meeting.
How to apply? During the submission of your abstract (by 19 April 2024), click the “Young Scholar Award” tickbox.A “Letter of Recommendation” from a senior scientist supervising the work must complement the abstract. This maximum one A4 page must include the following information:
The current status of the applicant, e.g. bachelor student, master student, doctoral student.
The stage of the current status, e.g. 2nd year doctoral student.
A short assessment of the applicant, the quality of the work carried out by the applicant and the main reason why he/she would deserve this award.
Evaluation The evaluation will be done in two different steps.First, all abstracts and related letters of recommendation will be judged by the Young Scholar Award Selection Committee based on scientific novelty and quality. Out of all submissions, 4 to 6 applications will be selected. The abstracts of these applicants will be accepted for ORAL presentation during DCM2023. Together with a note earmarking them as Young Scholar Award abstracts, each of them will be placed in a session of the oral programme based on the topic of each individual abstract. (Hence, there will NOT be a separate Young Scholar Award session.)In addition to the oral presentation, all of the shortlisted applicants will be asked to prepare a poster on the same subject of the abstract. These posters will be placed together and highlighted during the first poster session on Monday afternoon. This will provide the Young Scholar Award Selection Committee ample opportunity to evaluate the quality of the posters, and to interact with their respective presenters. This will then serve as the base to select the Gold and the Silver Award winners.
Awards In addition to the highlighting of their work in the oral and poster programmes:
The Gold Young Scholar Award winner will receive a cash prize of 250 Euros and an Award certificate.
The Silver Young Scholar Award winner will receive an Award certificate.
Early career research award ICDCM2024
The International Conference on Diamond and Carbon Materials “Early Career Research Award” recognises a postdoctoral researcher whose work, despite being in the early stage of his or her career, has already shown important impact in the field of diamond and carbon materials. The organisation wishes to offer the awardee the opportunity to highlight his or her achievements to date on an international stage through a plenary award presentation.
Who can apply? All researchers who received their doctoral degree (e.g. DSc, PhD.) max. 10 years ago at the time of the meeting, and who do not hold a permanent or tenure-track position, unless this appointment is less than 3 years old at the time of the meeting. Periods corresponding to significant career breaks (parental leave, illness …), can be added to the above time limits provided this is clearly stated. A researcher can only apply twice for this award. Previous winners and invited speakers are not eligible.
How to apply? Please send your nomination dossier to the Conference Content Executive at [email protected](opens in new tab/window), with the subject “Early Career Research Award DCM2024”, before 8 May 2024, and include the following information:
A cover letter (max. 1 page) with your full contact details.
A personal statement (max. 1 page) clearly stating the achievements that are proposed for recognition, including one strong key sentence summarising your nomination.
A curriculum vitae (max. 2 pages), including number of papers that have been published, h-index, and total number of citations as of the submission date.
List of 5 key publications (max. 1 page), including number of citations and journal impact factor.
Two letters of recommendation (max. 2 pages each) from well-established senior scientists familiar with your qualifications, signed, and on letterhead.
Evaluation The evaluation will be done by the conference organisation and award committee.
Award In addition to a Plenary Award Presentation (40 min.), Invited Speaker package, and Award certificate, the awardee will be highlighted via the different (social) media channels, including DCM, DRM, and Materials Today websites, etc.
