Description

The muscles of the thigh are a group of muscles of the lower limb that act on the femur, tibia, and fibula. They are involved in movements of the thigh and leg, and also help stabilize these during standing and balancing.

For classification purposes, the muscles of the thigh are divided into three distinct compartments by the femur and intermuscular septa:

- muscles of the anterior compartment of thigh;

- muscles of the posterior compartment of thigh;

- muscles of the medial compartment of thigh.
