Origin

The lateral segmental artery arises from the left hepatic artery after it arches over the portal vein.

Course

The lateral segmental artery passes superiorly and to the left. It arches over the posterior (umbilical) portion of the left branch of the portal vein.

Branches

The lateral segmental artery bifurcates into two segmental arteries, segmental II artery (A2) and segmental III artery (A3).

Supplied Structures

The lateral segmental artery supplies segments II and III of the liver.
