Elsevier partners with leading university ranking organizations, such as QS and THE, providing reliable research information and data points to help inform and implement their ranking methodologies.

These university rankings empower institutions like yours to be better aware of their global standing and help prospective students assess where they want to pursue their studies. The data and information underpinning rankings can also inform planning and strategic decision-making, assist with finding experts and collaborators, showcase expertise and expand the understanding of research outcomes.

THE’s methodology consists of 13 metrics that are grouped into five major areas:

  • Teaching (30%)
  • Research (30%)
  • Citations (30%)*
  • International outlook (7.5%)
  • Industry income (2.5%)

* Scopus provides data to THE for this category.

QS World University Rankings evaluate universities according to six metrics, with the highest weighting applied to Academic reputation (40%) generated from the QS Academic Survey.

The other five metrics are as follows:

  • Citations per faculty (20%)*
  • Faculty/student ration (20%)
  • Employer reputation (10%)
  • International study (5%)
  • International students (5%)
