Sally Thorne, RN, PhD, is Professor (and former Director) of the School of Nursing and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, where she has maintained a program of substantive and methodological scholarship in the philosophy of science, the nature of evidence, research methodology and patient experience. She is the author of the popular applied qualitative research text Interpretive Description and Editor-in-Chief of the scholarly journal Nursing Inquiry. Her record of academic nursing leadership spans several decades in the development of nursing education and research nationally and internationally, including a long history of CASN involvement, and she has been inducted as a Fellow of both the American Academy of Nursing and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
