Luis Liz-Marzan, Ikerbasque - Basque Foundation for Science, Spain
Dr. Luis Liz-Marzán received his Bachelor and Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Dr. Liz-Marzán has more than 20 years of research experience at a number of institutions, including the University of Vigo, Utrecht University, Tohoku University, University of Michigan, University of Melbourne, University of Hamburg, and the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces. He is now Ikerbasque Research Professor and Scientific Director of the Center for Cooperative Research in Biomaterials (CIC biomaGUNE) in San Sebastián, Spain.
Liz-Marzán’s research focuses on nanoparticle synthesis and assembly, nanoplasmonics, the development of nanoparticle-based sensing and diagnostic tools, and the creation of colloidal composites. Dr. Liz-Marzán has published over 380 peer-reviewed research papers and is co-inventor on 8 patents. He has also been the recipient of several awards, including most recently the Rey Jaime I Award on Basic Research, Medal of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry, ECIS Rhodia Prize, ACS Nano Lectureship Award, Langmuir Lecturer and DuPont Award for Science. He is a Member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences, Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Optical Society of America. Dr. Liz-Marzán has also been named ISI’s Highly Cited Researcher in both Chemistry and Materials Science.
