Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University Selects Integrated Library Management System from Endeavor Information Systems
Voyager® to Assist Australian University in Managing Complex Resource Sharing Needs of Six Campus Libraries and Improving Student Access to Collections
Des Plaines, IL, November 14, 2006 - Endeavor Information Systems, one of the leading worldwide providers of library management software, today announced that Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University has selected Voyager®, the company’s flagship integrated library systems (ILS), to improve efficiency in library automation, resource sharing and patron access.
The adoption of Voyager at RMIT University was driven by the institution's need for a comprehensive library automation system supporting integration between six branches of the campus library network and interoperability with other university systems and external organizations such as the National Library of Australia.
"Voyager was selected on the basis of system functionality, combined with Endeavor's strong local and international market presence and the focus the organization brings to bear on the global library market," said Craig Anderson, director of the University Library at RMIT. "A number of system-wide improvements will flow from this implementation and we’re confident that our association with Endeavor will enable us to increase student satisfaction and streamline internal processes.
Approximately 160 members of RMIT's library staff will ultimately use a wide range of Endeavor solutions. In addition to Voyager, the university also plans to implement Meridian™, the company's electronic resource management (ERM) system; Curator™, Endeavor’s resource management solution for searching, creating and managing digital collections; and the company’s analysis and reporting module, Analyzer™.
"This extensive adoption of Endeavor technology will assist everyone working within the RMIT University Library system," continued Anderson. "Our staff will benefit from the software’s flexibility and ease of use, as well as improved technical services functionality and enhanced control over electronic resources."
Like most academic libraries, RMIT University Library is focused on dedicating resources aimed at addressing evolving patron needs. According to RMIT’s Anderson, "Voyager will improve our responsiveness to student demands and enable faster, more streamlined ordering processes. Additionally, patrons will benefit from an improved catalogue interface and a more integrated approach to accessing research materials."
"The adoption of Endeavor software at RMIT University further extends the company’s substantial footprint in Australia," said Jeroen Reiniers, Endeavor’s director of Sales - Asia Pacific. "We look forward to working in partnership with RMIT and helping this prestigious institution meet and exceed the expectations of its students by providing them with enhanced and efficient access to both physical and digital collections."
Endeavor software is currently used at a number of Australian institutions, including the National Library of Australia, the State Library of Queensland, the State Library of Victoria, the Australian Defense Force Academy, Flinders University, Macquarie University, Monash University, the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia.
Additionally, the University of Western Sydney employs Endeavor technology to manage The Whitlam Institute’s Prime Ministerial Collection, which provides a comprehensive online resource containing the papers, diaries and photographs of the Honourable Edward Gough Whitlam AC QC, who served as the 21st Prime Minister of Australia from 1972 to 1975.
