Amsterdam, August 31, 2009 – Elsevier, the world-leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, announced today that its Science & Technology division will publish an English translation of former President of China Jiang Zemin’s book Research on Energy Issues in China. The future of China’s energy addressed by prominent politician Jiang Zemin’s work is a critical topic for policy makers, energy industry analysts, researchers and investors across international political, economic, security and social sectors. The Elsevier publication marks the first time that Jiang Zemin’s influential book on energy policy and strategy will be available in English.
China’s rapid economic expansion raises many questions about how it will acquire the energy it needs to sustain growth. In this unique collection of articles, Jiang asserts a pressing need for China to invest in science, technology, research and development to ensure the steady supply of energy crucial for driving development. In this book Research on Energy Issues in China Jiang outlines this energy strategy for China, “We need to steadfastly conserve energy, use it efficiently, diversify development, keep the environment clean, be technology driven and cooperate internationally in order to establish a system of energy production, distribution and consumption that is highly efficient, uses advanced technology, produces few pollutant, has minimal impact on the ecosystem, and provides a steady and secure energy supply.”
Research on Energy Issues in China was first published by Shanghai Jiaotong University (SJTU) Press in Chinese in October 2008. Mr. Zhang Tianwei, Editor in Chief of SJTU Press said, “We are very happy to work with Elsevier’s Science &Technology division to publish President Jiang Zemin’s book in English and introduce it to the Western world. This seminal book addresses a timely issue and is written by one of China’s foremost figures with years of expertise in this area. We believe that Jiang’s views and ideas will be of great interest to a wide range of audiences around the world, as we all face the pressing issues around the future of energy.”
