Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, has announced that it has been selected by the National Medical Association (NMA) to publish its journal, Journal of the National Medical Association (JNMA), as of January 2016.
Journal of the National Medical Association, the official peer-reviewed publication of the NMA, is published 4 times a year. Published since 1909, JNMA is a peer-reviewed publication whose purpose is to address medical care disparities of persons of African descent.
JNMA is focused on specialized clinical research activities related to the health problems of African Americans and other minority groups. Special emphasis is placed on the application of medical science to improve the healthcare of underserved populations both in the United States and abroad. The Journal has the following objectives: (1) to expand the base of original peer-reviewed literature and the quality of that research on the topic of minority health; (2) to provide greater dissemination of this research; (3) to offer appropriate and timely recognition of the significant contributions of physicians who serve these populations; and (4) to promote engagement by member and non-member physicians in the overall goals and objectives of the National Medical Association.
“The move to Elsevier will allow us to bring our high quality content to a larger, global audience. We will also be able to enhance the features of our journal, in print and online, for the benefit of our members, readers, and authors,” said Martin Hamlette, JD, MHA, of The National Medical Association.
“We are very pleased and honored to begin working with the National Medical Association on their important, high-quality journal. As the publisher of JNMA, the NMA’s flagship journal, we will help the journal grow in content, readership, and global influence,” said Sarah Barth, Publisher, Health and Medical Science Journals at Elsevier.
