Illinois hospital selects evidence-based order sets solution, enabling clinical staff to translate knowledge into actions

Philadelphia, PA, October 15, 2014

Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, announced today that Blessing Health System, based in Quincy, Ill., has selected InOrder by Elsevier for its order sets solution. Blessing Health System, composed of two hospitals, a physician group, a four-year nursing education program, a foundation and a group of medical specialty businesses, will use the cloud-based InOrder to enable clinical staff to author, review and publish orders in a collaborative environment that can quickly translate evidence-based knowledge into better patient care.

"Simplification, smart order set management and quality evidence-based content all led us to the decision to integrate InOrder at our facilities," said Peggy Plummer, Clinical Informatics Supervisor at Blessing Hospital. "We strive to support our teams' patient care efforts, and InOrder will be integral in offering clinicians improved workflow and highly regarded, quality medical literature resources."

InOrder's capabilities enable hospitals and clinicians to increase patient safety and prevent medical errors with features that provide:

  • Access to relevant evidence-based answers from ClinicalKey, Elsevier's clinical insight engine
  • Advanced collaboration tools for order set development, maintenance, access and tracking
  • Tailored, concise ordering focused on the most common scenarios
  • Availability across technology platforms enabled by a cloud-based delivery model
  • Localization tools to incorporate hospitals' clinical terminologies and import existing order sets
  • Enhanced clinical guidance and evidence within the set
  • Quality metric indicators that highlight orders important for guidelines and metrics
  • Bi-directional EHR integration that allows for rapid development, deployment and maintenance of order sets.

"With an organization that boasts multiple facilities and specialties like Blessing Health System, organized and collaborative solutions are paramount to achieving optimal patient care," said Dr. Jonathan Teich, Chief Medical Informatics Officer, Elsevier Clinical Solutions. "InOrder is intuitive, collaborative and tailored for each facility. Implementation teams are led by clinicians and informaticists with deep knowledge of the order set space and supported by experts in software deployment, ensuring tailored the best fit solution for each system."

InOrder adapts to any healthcare organization, allowing the import of existing order sets, and helps clinicians author order sets based on a hospital's specific terminology and order items.

In addition to InOrder, Blessing uses Elsevier's CPM CarePoints, a comprehensive, EHR-based interdisciplinary care planning and clinical documentation system.
