As a Technical Lead, my current work focuses on guiding the re-architecture and evolution of an online platform for distributing pre-print academic papers. It’s a complex project to radically update a 20 year old system using technologies such as Java, Docker and AWS. As a team we practice continuous delivery and DevOps. This allows us to get fast feedback on our work and iterate quickly towards a valuable user experience. We are given a lot of trust, breaking new technical ground within the organisation. There’s a good degree of autonomy and collaboration, which is rare in some large organisations.
