ClinicalPath, an oncology clinical decision support tool from Elsevier, adds a new functionality to launch from Epic

Elsevier, a global leader in information analytics specializing in science and health, is pleased to announce that ClinicalPath (formerly Via Oncology), a leading oncology decision support tool, has launched expanded integration with the Epic platform so that evidence-based oncology pathways are more deeply embedded in the clinical workflow. This new integration will help cancer care teams make consistent, well-informed decisions for high quality care from within the electronic health record (EHR) by automating the application of cancer staging information into ClinicalPath.

ClinicalPath allows physicians to view patient-specific cancer treatment options, presented at appropriate times, that help to optimize treatment and care delivery. The new integration improves information flow for physicians, pulling from the most recent and relevant research in oncology to create personalized patient treatment options at the point-of-care.

“The goal with all of our advanced clinical decision support offerings is that they become a natural part of the physician’s workflow to help enable standardized care. Enhancing patient care and outcomes while improving efficiency for physicians is at the core of our mission,” says John Danaher, MD, Global President, Clinical Solutions at Elsevier.

Using ClinicalPath’s enhanced integration with Epic, physicians are now able to:

  • Launch ClinicalPath from Epic using SMART on FHIR technology that pulls relevant provider and patient context into the pathway
  • Apply cancer staging data from Epic into ClinicalPath with one click, removing duplicate data entry
  • Navigate in ClinicalPath, embedded within Epic, to view and select the optimal treatment regimen that incorporates the key factors of efficacy, toxicity and cost
  • Queue up the selected treatment within the Epic Beacon protocol selection process, reducing manual order entry
  • Automatically document key details on the clinical presentation and treatment selected as a note into the patient’s Epic chart
