Origin

The stylopharyngeus branch of glossopharyngeal nerve is a terminal branch of the glossopharyngeal nerve. It originates as a branch of the main trunk of the glossopharyngeal nerve as it passes laterally and down along the stylopharyngeus.

Course

From its origin, the stylopharyngeus branch of glossopharyngeal nerve quickly penetrates the stylopharyngeus muscle.

Supplied Structures

The stylopharyngeus branch of glossopharyngeal nerve is a motor nerve. It supplies branchial motor innervation to the stylopharyngeus muscle. This is the only muscle innervated by the glossopharyngeal nerve.
