Shulin Chen is a Professor of Biological Systems Engineering at Washington State University. He received his BS and MS degrees in Agricultural Engineering in China and PhD in Biological and Environmental Engineering from Cornell University. Dr. Chen’s expertise is industrial biosystems engineering applications in bioprocessing and biorefinery. Dr. Chen’s current research interest is harnessing natural and synthetic biological systems for producing biochemical and biofuels. More specific topics include nature-inspired lignocellulose processing, algae culture and conversion, cell factories, anaerobic digestion biotechnology, and multi-scale mathematical modeling. Dr. Chen has published 290 refereed journal papers and co-authored 20 US and foreign issued patents.
