Laura Coates was born in Birmingham and holds a Medical Degree (MBChB) from the University of Liverpool. Laura is a Specialist Registrar in Rheumatology and has recently completed an Arthritis Research UK Clinical Research Fellowship at the Leeds Institute of Molecular Medicine, Section of Musculoskeletal Disease, University of Leeds.

Laura's research is centered around psoriatic arthritis and the spondyloarthritides. Particular interests include optimum treatment guidelines and the concept of treating to an objective target. She also has interests and experience in outcome measure development and working within the Outcome Measures in Rheumatology Clinical Trials (OMERACT) group, she has been involved in the development and validation of novel clinical and imaging outcome measures.  Laura has specific interests in MRI imaging, both the utilization as MRI as an outcome measure but also in investigating the imaging phenotype of early psoriatic arthritis with existing and novel imaging techniques.
