The Serbian Library Consortium KoBSON Expands its Access to Elsevier’s Research Management and Database Solutions

Belgrade, Serbia, February 4, 2014

Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical, and medical information products and services, today announced it has expanded its collaboration with the Serbian Library Consortium for Coordinated Acquisition (KoBSON). KoBSON members will now have access to Elsevier's journal back file content (research articles published before 1995), a collection of more than 4,000 ebooks and to research performance solution SciVal Spotlight. Existing access to ScienceDirect and Scopus has been extended until 2017.

Newly secured access to ScienceDirect combined with Elsevier's journal back file content will enable members to navigate through the entire range of research articles available on ScienceDirect. Together with access to ebooks, Scopus and SciVal Spotlight, KoBSON's members now benefit from a further improved scientific information and evaluation infrastructure aiming to increase research output productivity and visibility in the scientific landscape.

Biljana Kosanovic, Head of KoBSON, said, "KoBSON was founded in 2001 with the aim to strengthen science and innovation in Serbia. Since then, we work closely with the research community, government and with academic publishers to increase access to global research literature. Expanding access to cover more of Elsevier's research management and database solutions enables our members to stay on top of global scientific research and developments. We are confident this will further strengthen Serbia's role in the international scientific research communities."

Endre Beky, Elsevier's Regional Director for Eastern-Europe said, "We are honoured to engage further with KoBSON and the Serbian research community. We share the Consortium's strategic approach of long-term research success to improve Serbia's position in global research ranking. Elsevier supports the pioneering spirit of the Consortium as they build on their strong regional capacity in science and education."

About Kobson Consortium

KoBSON, the Serbian Library Consortium for Coordinated Acquisition was established in 2001 and represents the Serbian research community. Through the National Library of Serbia, acting as a hub, the Consortium currently provides access to some 40,000 international journal titles, and more than 30,000 books. All these licenses are financed centrally by the Ministry of Science through a contract with the National Library. The KoBSON portal is the official site of the Serbian Consortium, hosted and maintained by the Center for Scientific Information at the National Library of Serbia. The portal is intended to offer integrated access to electronic content subscribed by the Consortium.
