Elsevier Brings Its Award-Winning Content To European Colleges With The ScienceDirect College Edition

ScienceDirect College Edition contributes to student information literacy at teaching-based colleges

Amsterdam, September 4, 2006 -- Elsevier will extend its ScienceDirect College Edition to Europe this year. The offer was first introduced in North America in 2005 and has seen notable success with over one hundred teaching-based colleges now signed up.

The ScienceDirect College Edition was created to meet the demands of students and faculty at smaller teaching colleges who have a need for peer-reviewed scientific research literature. The ScienceDirect College Edition gives teachers and students online access to high quality full-text content only available on the ScienceDirect platform.  Libraries can choose from attractively-priced journal and/or reference collections in the ‘Social & Behavioral Sciences’, the ‘Physical Sciences’ and the ‘Health & Life Sciences’.

The value of web-delivered, peer reviewed research to teaching is demonstrated by the success of the ScienceDirect College Edition among North American colleges. As Linda Matyas, Periodicals Librarian at Jacksonville University in Florida, noted, “the ScienceDirect College Edition has turned me into a superhero in the eyes of our teachers and students – easiest praise I've ever received."

ScienceDirect’s positive contribution to student information literacy is echoed by Mr Lothar Löbnitz, Director of the Library at University of Applied Sciences in Jena, Germany, “Our professors and students have been demanding the online access to this high quality scientific content and I am now pleased to be able to deliver such relevant information so that I can further help my library users to achieve their goals in their studies, teaching and research.”

“The ScienceDirect College Edition emphasizes Elsevier’s commitment to teaching-based colleges,” remarked Andrea Schweikert, Global Accounts Director, Elsevier, “and I’m particularly pleased to be able to offer such valuable content to teachers and students at an affordable price."
