Elsevier and National Centre for Scientific and Technical Research in the Kingdom of Morocco announce the inaugural Morocco Scopus Awards

Morocco aspires to strengthen its global research ranking and stimulate innovation with broader access to Elsevier’s scientific information and tools

To honor Moroccan scientific research and reward the most prolific researchers in Morocco, the National Centre for Scientific and Technical Research of the Kingdom of Morocco(opens in new tab/window) (CNRST), and Elsevier, a global leader in research publishing and information analytics, are partnering on the first-ever Morocco Scopus Awards 2022 celebration. The program and awards ceremony will be held on Thursday October 6, 2022, at 2:00 PM (GMT+1) at the CNRST headquarters in Rabat.

Under the aegis the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation of the Kingdom of Morocco, this event aspires to celebrate and encourage Morocco’s intellectual and scientific wealth.

Under a new agreement, Elsevier and CNRST provide Moroccan universities and researchers with robust access to ScienceDirect, Elsevier’s full-text platform for scholarly communication, and Scopus, the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature.

The program features:

  • A presentation of the results of the “Remediation of Moroccan Affiliations,” to be led by IMIST-CNRST

  • A discussion of the new report on the “state of Morocco’s scientific research,” which was developed by Elsevier

  • Presentation of the “Morocco Scopus Awards” to the winning researchers

The event will be chaired by Mr. Abdellatif Miraoui, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation with Mrs. Jamila El Alami, the director of the National Center for Scientific and Technical Research and Felix Haest, Vice President of International Markets, Elsevier, as well as distinguished guests representing the academic world in Morocco.

“The State, through the supervision of our Ministry, has continued to support the action of the CNRST for the development of our National Research System. This has enabled many researchers to excel, through their scientific production, and therefore to increase the international visibility of our national scientific heritage. This meeting is, thus, intended to be a celebration of these talents, which have contributed to the performance and success of our National Research System,” said Pr. Jamila El-Alami, Director of CNRST.

Felix Haest, Vice President of International Markets, Elsevier said: ““The winners represent a wide range of disciplines, highlighting the global contribution of Moroccan scientists and their commitment to applying their research to the benefit of society.”

Established in 1976, Morocco’s National Centre for Scientific and Technical Research(opens in new tab/window) (CNRST) is a public institution created in response to an increasing interest in scientific research as well as to the Moroccan policy of decentralizing the university.
