Is video gaming a real sport?
Electronic sport (eSport) – or competitive video gaming – is becoming increasingly popular, but debate remains as to whether it can really be called a sport. Researchers writing in Sport Management Review have assessed whether gaming can fit into officially recognized definitions of sport, including that it should: involve physical activity; be practiced for recreational purposes; involve an element of competition; have a framework of institutional organisation; and be generally accepted.
