Description

The plantar (inferior) surface of navicular bone is the rough, concave area on the lower aspect of the bone. It is one of the six surfaces of the navicular bone, the other five being the dorsal, medial and lateral surfaces, and the proximal and distal articular surfaces.

The plantar surface of navicular bone contains the plantar process. It provides an insertion site for the tibialis posterior muscle, and attachment sites for the plantar calcaneonavicular and plantar cuboideonavicular ligaments.
