Origin

The lateral dorsal cutaneous nerve is the terminal continuation of the sural nerve.

Course

The lateral dorsal cutaneous nerve runs distally, along the lateral side of the foot.

Branches

The lateral dorsal cutaneous nerve gives rise to one dorsal digital nerve. Additionally, it communicates with fibers of the intermediate dorsal cutaneous nerve.

Supplied Structures

The lateral dorsal cutaneous nerve provides sensory innervation to the skin of the lateral and dorsal aspect of the foot and the lateral side of the fifth toe.
