The olive (aka olivary body) is one of two oval prominences located lateral to the pyramid of medulla oblongata. It is composed of nerve tissue and contains the inferior olivary nuclei.

The prectectal olivary nucleus projects directly to the ipsilateral Edinger-Westphal nucleus and to the contralateral Edinger-Westphal nucleus via the posterior commissure.
