Description

The muscles of the lower limb include those that control gross motor skills, such as running and balancing. The coordinated action of these muscles is crucial in supporting body weight and maintaining balance during stance and locomotion, and higher-level gross motor skills, such as dancing and sports.

For classification purposes, the muscles of the lower limb can be arbitrarily divided into the following four distinct groups:

- muscles of gluteal region;

- muscles of thigh;

- muscles of leg;

- muscles of foot.
