Origin

The levator anguli oris muscle originates from the canine fossa of the maxilla, inferior to the infraorbital foramen.

Insertion

The levator anguli oris muscle inserts into the angle of the mouth, along with the zygomaticus major, depressor anguli oris, and orbicularis oris muscles. Additional fibers blend with the skin covering the nasolabial furrow.

Actions

The levator anguli oris muscle elevates the angle of the mouth. This action is used when smiling (Standring, 2016).
