Quick Facts
The medial occipital artery is one of the two terminal branches of the posterior cerebral artery, the other being the lateral occipital artery. From its origin, it travels posteromedially along the inferior surface of the cerebral hemisphere.
Along its course, the medial occipital artery gives off parietal, parieto-occipital, calcarine and occipitotemporal branches, as well as the dorsal branch to corpus callosum.
Overall, the medial occipital artery and its branches provide an arterial supply to the parietal and occipital lobes, cuneus, precuneus, and corpus callosum.
