Elsevier-Unit Agreement

Elsevier and Norwegian institutions (Unit consortium) have established a pilot agreement to enable continued reading access for Norwegian researchers and to enable open access publishing. When publishing in applicable Elsevier journals, authors will be able to choose to publish open access at no additional cost to the author.

Open access publishing under this agreement complies with the Norwegian Government’s National goals and guidelines for open access to research articles.


  • The author must be the corresponding author affiliated with an eligible institution.
  • The article must have a submission date between 1.1.2019 and 31.12.2020.

On publication, the final published article will be made freely available on ScienceDirect under the author’s choice of open access license (CC-BY and CC-BY-NC-ND).

How to publish your article Open Access?

Once your article is accepted for publication in an applicable journal, you will be presented with the open access publishing option. All open access articles will be published with your choice among two reuse licenses: CC-BY or CC-BY-NC-ND.
