8th International Conference on Algal Biomass, Biofuels and Bioproducts

Advanced Biomass R&D Center

Advanced Biomass R&D Center (ABC) was initiated with an unprecedented scale of financial support (approximately USD $100 million for nine years) from the Korean Ministry of Science and ICT as a part of Global Frontier Project. ABC has a goal of becoming one of the top research centers in microalgal biomass technologies in the world. More than 30 principal investigators with diverse specialties including phycologists, molecular biologists, chemists, biochemical engineers, and chemical engineers are participating in ABC. In order to best utilize microalgae for the production of biofuels and bio-materials to a commercial level, new microalgal strains with desirable characteristics, as well as energy-efficient technologies for mass cultivation, harvesting, extraction and conversion are being intensively developed.
