Simon Holt is Senior Product Manager, Content Accessibility, at Elsevier. He has worked in academic publishing, across books and journals, for over 15 years, and is a Director of the Society for Scholarly Publishing. A visually impaired person himself, he is an advocate for greater disability inclusion across the scholarly communications industry. He is also a Trustee of sight-loss charity MyVision Oxfordshire.

Launching the latest Biodiversity Research in 2024 report with a deep dive on Latin America

Key findings – biodiversity research is characterized by

  • High scientific impact: a FWCI 22% above world average; similar percentage for Latin America

  • Strong International Collaboration: 37% of all research comes from international partnerships, 51% of all Latin American research is international

  • Significant contribution from Europe (41% of all research) but also from Latin America (16%)

  • High relative activity from Latin American countries: Brazil, Mexico, Colombia: three times the world average; Bolivia, Panama, Costa Rica between 8 and 15 times the world average.
