Conference themes

Papers relating to fracture mechanics testing methods, theoretical and numerical developments and applications of fracture mechanics to industrial applications are all welcome. Of special interest are novel polymer-based materials and composites, e.g., renewable or biodegradable and polymer-based materials made with new technologies, e.g., additive manufacturing. Please note that submissions on fracture of other materials and composites, e.g., metal-matrix, ceramic-matrix, or concrete are outside the scope and will not be considered.

Submission for oral presentation is closed, but poster submissions will be accepted until 1 March 2024.

Please submit using the online abstract submission system(opens in new tab/window) (opens in new tab/window).

We are again inviting papers in the areas reflecting the current and future interests of TC4 as listed below. New developments and innovative applications are especially welcome. Both experimental and theoretical work is sought, including modelling and simulation, in order to give a balanced view of the subject areas:

  • Polymers: Low rate properties, Kc, Gc and Jc. Essential work of fracture, we. Impact and high rate properties. Ductile energy dissipation and notching effects. Environmental effects. Fracture in soft materials. Cutting, machining and scratching.

  • Composites: Delamination in continuous fibre composites including cross-ply and 3D reinforcement. Impact and high rate properties. Fatigue fracture, damage mechanisms, thermal properties, experimental characterization and simulation. Toughness of short fibre, particulate, or nano- and micro-scale reinforced composites. Pure and mixed-mode fracture. Peeling of flexible laminates.

  • Adhesives: Structural adhesives toughness evaluation. Geometry and thickness effects on Gc.  Measuring toughness in highly toughened adhesive joints, including Jc testing. Toughening mechanisms, including nano-scale additives. Impact and high rate behaviour. Environmental effects. Peeling of flexible laminates.

  • Application of fracture mechanics: Service life prediction models, including cyclic fatigue loads and environmental ageing effects. Data for FE design codes. Applications in structural engineering, electronics, pipelines and layered structures. Crash simulations.

SSRN

The 9th International Conference on Fracture of Polymers, Composites and Adhesives is partnering with SSRN

Widen the reach of your work beyond the conference to an even broader audience.

If your research is accepted for presentation at the conference, authors can choose to include their abstract (and poster PDF if presented as a poster) within the pre-print service SSRN.

This is open access, has a DOI’s and has no publishing charges for presenters at Elsevier Conferences!

SSRN is an open access research platform used to share early-stage research, evolve ideas, measure results, and connect scholars around the world. With over 2.5 million registered users, the potential is there for your research to reach millions of SSRN viewers and subscribers around the world.

SSRN hosts conference proceedings within our library using our Proceedings Hosting solution. SSRN helps extend the reach of the papers within the proceedings, the conference event and the accepted/invited authors by hosting and distributing proceedings through our global, interdisciplinary platform.

Conference proceedings on SSRN are displayed on a permanent, logo-branded page and are freely accessible to all users.

SSRN does not take copyright or exclusive rights so there are no license transfer forms for authors to fill out and authors/copyright holders are free to publish/reuse the work elsewhere without restriction from SSRN.

SSRN helps increase and measure the impact and reach of papers, including proceedings papers, in multiple other ways:

  • SSRN aggregates the total downloads for all papers included in a conference proceedings.

  • SSRN provides article level metrics which include total abstract views, downloads, and citations.

  • SSRN is integrated with PlumX Metrics to provide article-level information on the impact and usage of papers on SSRN, including citations, social media, news and other mentions, and more.

  • Second, eligible submissions are submitted to Crossref to receive an SSRN DOI which ensures the author can stake their claim in their work very early in the sharing process.

  • Third, Google and other search engines crawl SSRN, so papers do appear in search results for Google, Google Scholar, etc.

  • Lastly, all papers on SSRN are evaluated for distribution and posting in up to 12 of our "Subject Matter eJournals" which registered SSRN users subscribe to in order to receive email alerts containing the latest uploaded papers in their field(s) of interest.

Supporting Publication

Engineering Fracture Mechanics(opens in new tab/window) covers a broad range of topics in fracture mechanics to be of interest and use to both researchers and practitioners. Contributions are welcome which address the fracture behavior of conventional engineering material systems as well as newly emerging material systems. Contributions on developments in the areas of mechanics and materials science strongly related to fracture mechanics are also welcome. Papers on fatigue are welcome if they treat the fatigue process using the methods of fracture mechanics. The Editors especially solicit contributions which synthesize experimental and theoretical-computational studies yielding results with direct engineering significance.
