Dr. Jacob C. Schwartz is an assistant professor at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He has long been interested in the roles of RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) in disease. In the case of neurodegenerative disease, several of these RBPs also regulate transcription. The Schwartz lab operates on the assumption that the basic biochemical function of these proteins will guide our understanding of the molecular basis for pathology. Furthermore, as the normal cellular function of these RBPs is poorly characterized, unraveling the function of these proteins further contributes to our general understanding of biology.
