Gary Bassell, Emory University, USA
Gary Bassell is currently Professor and Chair of the Department of Cell Biology at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Bassell’s laboratory has major interests in basic mechanisms of mRNA transport and local translation, and to investigate how these processes go awry in fragile x syndrome and spinal muscular atrophy. He received his Ph.D. in Cell Biology from the University of Massachusetts Medical School and did a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Bassell served on the faculty at Albert Einstein College of Medicine before moving to Emory. Dr. Bassell has received the Basal O-Connor Scholar Award, the Dana Foundation Award in Brain Imaging and NARSAD Independent and Distinguished Investigator Awards.
