Journal of Dairy Science® Impact Factor increases to 2.749

JDS ranks fourth by Impact Factor among Agriculture, Dairy, and Animal Science journals

According to new statistics released in Clarivate Analytics’ Journal Citation Reports®, the Impact Factor for the Journal of Dairy Science (JDS) increased 11.1 percent compared with last year. As a measure that quantifies the average number of citations over a specific period, the Impact Factor is a useful tool to independently assess the quality of scientific journals. As such, the increase in JDS’s Impact Factor from 2.474 to 2.749 is significant for the journal.

“It gives me great satisfaction to see JDS continuing to grow and improve,” said Editor-in-Chief Matt Lucy of the University of Missouri. “The quality of the science published in the journal is remarkable, but our increasing Impact Factor is also a testament to the skill and dedication of our reviewers and section editors, who put in considerable effort to make JDS an indispensable tool for dairy scientists around the world.”

An Impact Factor of 2.749 places JDS fourth out of 60 journals in the Agriculture, Dairy, and Animal Science category, where the median Impact Factor is 0.978. The journal publishes more than 10 percent of all articles in the category and had more than 45,000 citations in 2017 to content published in 2015 and 2016. The journal also received its highest 5-year Impact Factor (3.085), indicating that articles in JDS continue to be cited well beyond the immediate 2-year period following publication. In the Food Science and Technology category, where the median Impact Factor is 1.765, JDS is ranked 35th out of 133 journals.

The new rankings validate the journal’s claim as the leading peer-reviewed general dairy research journal in the world. For 16 consecutive years, JDS has been ranked in the top five by Impact Factor in the Agriculture, Dairy, and Animal Science category, demonstrating the journal’s consistent commitment to excellence in publishing peer-reviewed dairy science.
