Elsevier Launches Journal of Hydro-environment Research

Collaboration with International Association of Hydraulic Engineering and the Korea Water Resources Association produces new forum for Asia Pacific water and hydraulic problems

Amsterdam, 08 January 2007 – In April 2007 Elsevier will launch a new journal entitled Journal of Hydro-environment Research. This quarterly journal will be a collaboration between Elsevier, the International Association of Hydraulic Engineering (IAHR), its Asia Pacific Division (IAHR-APD) and the Korea Water Resources Association (KWRA).

The Journal of Hydro-environment Research provides an international platform for the dissemination of research and engineering applications related to water and hydraulic problems in the Asia-Pacific region. In addition to research articles, the journal will also publish review papers, invited contributions, book reviews and technical communications.

As the official journal of the Asia Pacific Division of the International Association of Hydraulic Engineering and Research, the new journal is the brain-child of a team of Asia-Pacific water experts, whose vision is to provide a forum for promising young Asian researchers to develop and contribute to new knowledge and thinking on the world stage. The launch of the Journal of Hydro-environment Research is significant as water and environment will be an increasingly important issue in many Asian and Pacific countries in the coming decade. An effective approach to hydro-environmental problems in the region – ranging from toxic algal blooms, urban flood control, river mixing, to coastal protection - presents technical challenges and exciting opportunities for the hydraulics and water management profession.

"Journal of Hydro-environment Research is financially sponsored by the KWRA and has taken two years from conception to the final publisher agreement with Elsevier. Regular features of the Journal will include the publication of the top papers presented at the biennial IAHR-APD Congresses and topical reviews by experienced APD researchers and engineers," remarked Professor Joseph Hun-wei Lee, Chairman of the IAHR, Asia and Pacific Division, and Founding Editor.

Dr. Christopher George, Executive Director of IAHR added: "As one of the world's oldest international water associations, IAHR encourages researchers around the world, by providing opportunities for them to develop and share knowledge with their peers, and with practitioners. The Asia region is and will be the key area for development in the future, and the launch of this Journal provides a unique multi-sector scholarly platform for water specialists pertaining to the Asian and Pacific region."

Dr. Christiane Barranguet, Journal Publisher, Elsevier, also commented "Launching this new journal represents a unique opportunity for Elsevier to work closely with the IAHR and KWRA. We look forward to this new relationship and providing the Journal of Hydro-environment Research with the necessary publishing expertise and resources, enabling the journal to reach an international audience and achieve certification and to establish its success and international profile."
