Statement on the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)

Elsevier is actively preparing to meet the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which will come into effect on December 30, 2025.

At Elsevier, we take our environmental responsibilities seriously. Our paper sourcing policy emphasizes sustainable procurement and responsible consumption across all our business operations. As part of this commitment, we:

  • Avoid deforestation by sourcing only from responsibly managed forests

  • Purchase paper that meets strict environmental and ethical standards, including Bookchain grades, FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) certifications

  • Extend these sourcing principles to our entire supplier network, requiring alignment with our environmental standards

We continue to monitor regulatory developments and are working to ensure that our procurement processes remain aligned with evolving EUDR requirements, particularly in relation to transparency, documentation, and due diligence.

Elsevier is proud of its long-standing commitment to sustainability, which includes being a founding signatory to the SDG Publishers Compact that demonstrates our deep commitment to driving progress for a more sustainable future, for both people and the planet, internally and within the communities we serve.
