Description

The articular facet is the medially located, smooth, oval area on the tubercle of the first rib. It articulates with the transverse costal facet of the first thoracic vertebra, forming the first costotransverse joint.

Overall, these articular facets on tubercles are only present on the first to tenth ribs, while the eleventh and twelfth ribs lack this bony feature.
