The articular facet is the round, smooth area located on the medial aspect of the head of the twelfth rib. It articulates with the costal facet of the twelfth thoracic vertebra, forming the joint of the head of the twelfth rib.
Overall, the first, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth ribs have a single articular facet on their heads, while the remaining ribs have two articular facets, known as the superior and inferior articular facets on heads of ribs.
