Description

The lateral (fibular) malleolus is the expanded, distal end of the fibula. It contains the malleolar groove of fibula, malleolar fossa, and the articular facet of lateral malleolus.

The lateral malleolus provides attachment sites for the anterior talofibular, posterior talofibular, posterior tibiofibular, and calcaneofibular ligaments, as well as the superior fibular retinaculum.
