Description

The ischial tuberosity is the large, rounded, rough elevation on the dorsal surface of body of ischium. It provides the origin sites for multiple muscles, including the:

—hamstring muscles (i.e., semitendinosus, semimembranosus and long head of biceps femoris muscles);

—ischiocondylar part (hamstring part) of adductor magnus muscle;

—quadratus femoris muscle;

—inferior gemellus muscle.

The ischial tuberosity also provides an attachment site for the sacrotuberous ligament and is the structure that supports the body when sitting.
