Join us for this landmark gathering of international researchers sharing cutting-edge advances in mechanobiology.

We look forward to welcoming you to the 2nd International Conference on Mechanobiology which will take place in Shenzhen, China from 22-25 July 2027.

Mechanobiology integrates tools of mechanics, biology, physics, chemistry, engineering, and medicine to uncover how biomolecules, cells, and tissues generate, sense, and respond to mechanical forces, and how mechanical signals govern development, differentiation, homeostasis, and disease. The potential translation of mechanobiology into clinic practice holds great promise.

The 2nd International Conference on Mechanobiology will be co-chaired by Prof. Xi-Qiao Feng (Tsinghua University, China) and Prof. Guy M. Genin (Washington University in St. Louis, USA), organized by Elsevier and the journal Mechanobiology in Medicineopens in new tab/window. It is supported by the Mechanobiology Academic Subgroup of the Biophysical Society of China, and by the CSBME-CSTAM Committee of Biomechanics.

The conference will examine promising mechanisms, highlight emerging technologies, and address potential clinical translation through mechanomedicine. It will bring together researchers, engineers, and clinicians from across biology, mechanics, engineering, materials science, and medicine, with an emphasis on opportunities for young investigators.

The 2nd International Conference on Mechanobiology builds upon a highly successful first conference in 2025 which brought hundreds of participants from more than 20 countries and regions to Shanghai and featured 20 plenary lectures by leading international experts.

1. Mechanosensors and Mechanotransduction Signaling. How cells feel forces: structures and gating of mechanosensitive ion channels (Piezo, TRP, and related); integrin/focal adhesion signaling; the YAP/TAZ-Hippo axis; molecular mechanisms and pharmacological control.

2. Nuclear and Cellular Mechanobiology, and Mechanical Memory. How force propagates from cytoskeleton to genome: cell confinement; the LINC complex and nuclear lamina; mechano-regulation of chromatin; epigenetic mechanical memory in physiology and disease.

3. Mechano-immunology (Immuno-mechanobiology). How T cells, macrophages, and neutrophils sense and respond to force, and how mechanical reprogramming of these cells is opening new routes to control inflammation and enhance immunotherapy.

4. Cancer Mechanobiology and Mechano-immunotherapy. The heterogeneous tumor micro-environment; ECM stiffening and immune evasion; mechanoadaptation and metastasis; mechanics-targeted and mechano-immunotherapeutic strategies against solid tumors.

5. Cardiovascular Mechanobiology. Hemodynamic sensing and endothelial and smooth muscle mechanotransduction; mechanical drivers of atherosclerosis and vascular calcification; and the mechanical design of cardiovascular implants, devices, and engineered vessels.

6. Bone, Cartilage and Musculoskeletal Mechanobiology. Bone remodeling and osteocyte mechanosensing; mechanical-inflammatory coupling in osteoarthritis; tendon, ligament, and muscle mechanics; extreme environments, including microgravity.

7. Extracellular Matrix Mechanics, Fibrosis and Tissue Remodeling. How matrix stiffness and viscoelasticity direct cell fate; mechanics in the fibroblast-to-myofibroblast transition and fibrosis; anti-fibrotic therapy.

8. Mechano-metabolism and Mechanobiology of Aging. Coupling between mechanics and metabolism; mechanical control of cellular senescence; epigenetics and aging.

9. AI-Enabled Mechanobiology: Measurement, Imaging and Computational Modeling. AI/ML-driven force measurement; single-cell mechano-phenotyping; multiscale modeling and digital twins; organoid- and organ-on-chip-based mechanical models.

10. Mechanomedicine and Translational Mechanobiology. From bench to bedside: mechanics-targeted drugs and delivery; mechanobiomarkers and diagnostics; biomaterials and mechanical niche design; mechanics in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.
