"The best feature of SciVal [is that] it allows me to import researchers from my school, and then group them into their organizational units. I can then analyze them at institute-level research groups, right down to the individual researchers. Another unique feature is [that] we can easily share the information with other senior managers.”

Scopus is a curated abstract and citation database. It offers enriched data and interlinked scholarly literature from over 7000 publishers across disciplines.
SciVal is an advanced analytics solution built on Scopus data. It helps users evaluate any research field, allowing them to understand the research performance of individuals, research groups, departments, institutions, and countries.
SciVal derives meaningful insights from research information, using artificial intelligence and advanced data science methods to support decision making for impact makers.
SciVal can support decision making across a broad range of areas from informing strategic research planning, to identifying outstanding partners and evaluating research performance. Some common questions that SciVal can help answer include:
Strategic research planning: What are our emerging, growing and niche areas of research expertise?
University Rankings: How do we compare to peers across the bibliometric data used in major university rankings?
Collaboration and partnerships: Which individuals and organizations globally, and across sectors, represent potential outstanding partners in research fields of interest?
Research evaluation: What metrics can we use to help us evaluate and benchmark researcher, department, faculty and institutional performance?
Research excellence: How can we demonstrate research excellence in a way that shows our unique strengths to secure funding and attract the necessary research expertise?
Research Impact: What is the broader impact of our research programs on society?
Team building and talent identification: Who are the key contributors globally, and across sectors, to our priority research fields?
UN SDGs: How can I showcase and benchmark my institutions expertise, outputs, impact, influence and overall contribution to specific fields such as the UN SDGs?
At SciVal’s core is data from Scopus, a source-neutral abstract and citation database curated by independent subject matter experts.
In addition to bibliometric data from Scopus, SciVal also includes policy (Overton), patent (LexisNexis IP DirectData), mass media and awarded grants data.
SciVal uses Scopus data from 1996 to the current date, covering over 75 million records. SciVal receives a weekly update of new data from Scopus, with processing times taking roughly one to two weeks.
SciVal offers an extensive array of simple and more sophisticated metrics to enable their confident and appropriate use in strategic decision making and benchmarking. There are more than 30 metrics available to use as part of your evidence base, including the bibliometrics used by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and Times Higher Education (THE) in their World University Rankings and THE Impact Rankings.
