Elsevier’s 2016 PROSE Award winners
The 40th annual PROSE awards were announced last month at the annual conference of the Association of American Publisher’s Professional and Scholarly Publishing Division in Washington, DC.
What are the PROSE awards? PROSE honors the best in professional and scholarly publishing, as judged by peer publishers, librarians, academics and medical professionals. Competition was "fierce" this year, according to AAP, with the competition attracting a record 551 entries of books, reference works, journals and electronic products in more than 54 categories.
First-place reference work also tops the chart for researcher co-usage on ScienceDirect
The first-place award for Excellence in Reference Works went to the International Encyclopedia of the Social and Behavioral Sciences, 2nd Edition (IESBS).
IESBS is also the top book used together with journal articles on the ScienceDirect platform. Access to this reference work contributes to a better (interdisciplinary) understanding of the journal subject areas in the chart below. The top 3 journal co-usage areas are social science, psychology, and medicine dentistry.
In a sample month last year, IESBS articles were used alongside journal articles over 34,000 times. A co-usage session is defined as a visit in which both journal articles and book chapters were used. A visit begins when a visitor enters the site and ends with 30 minutes of inactivity or 12 continuous hours of activity. If patrons and researchers at your institution use journals in the social sciences, psychology, medicine and dentistry, business management and accounting, arts and humanities, economics, and the other top subject areas from the chart above, then adding this reference work to your collection will offer a way to delve further into the subject areas they are interested in.
