Xinmin Zhan

Xinmin Zhan 占新民

Xinmin Zhan is a Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Galway and is a Fellow of the Irish Academy of Engineering. His main research areas include low-carbon wastewater treatment and resource recovery from waste. He has published more than 180 papers in leading journals such as Nature Water, Environmental Science & Technology, and Water Research. He has led more than 30 research projects. His research findings have been adopted and cited in policy documents in Ireland and several other countries, as well as by international organisations, particularly generating significant international impacts in the field of agricultural waste valorisation.

He has supervised 25 PhD students to successful completion, with several receiving prestigious honors, including the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-financed Students Abroad. He currently serves as President of the Chinese-European Society for Environment, Ecology & Sustainability (CESEES).
