Uri Gophna is a professor in the Shmunis School of Biomedicine and Cancer Research at Tel Aviv University. He received his undergraduate degree in Biotechnology and Food Engineering from the Technion and his Ph.D. from Tel Aviv University. His doctoral thesis focused on virulence factors of septicemic E. coli strains. Dr. Gophna's current research focuses on the role bacteria play in inflammatory bowel diseases and on host-virus interactions in archaea. He is a member of the American and European academies of microbiology and of EMBO.
