Dr. Tyler Barzee is a Bill Gatton Foundation Early Career Professor and Assistant Professor in the department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering at University of Kentucky. He holds three degrees in Biosystems Engineering: a BS from Clemson University (2014) and MS (2016) and PhD (2020) from University of California Davis. His research interests focus on bioprocess and fermentation engineering and understanding how we can harness microbes to develop sustainable technologies in support of future food systems and the circular bioeconomy. He is recipient of the 2026 Internation Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST) Young Scientist Award and is a Faculty Fellow of the James B Beam Institute for Kentucky Spirits. His lab has a strong emphasis on the development and evaluation of technologies for the valorization of byproducts from agricultural and food systems utilizing experiments as well as technoeconomic analysis (TEA) and lifecycle assessment (LCA) methodologies.
