Professor Sang Jun Sim is currently a professor in department of chemical and biological engineering at Korea University. He majored in chemical engineering at Seoul National University for his B.S. degree. Then, he received his M.S. and Ph.D. degree from the department of chemical engineering, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

He was a senior researcher at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from 1994 to 1996. Professor Sim has been working in a field of bioenergy production, CO2 conversion into value-added product, microfluidic system for microalgal cell screening and analysis, and microalgal strain development for industrial application. He has been the leader of the national research programs, Korea CCS 2020 Program and Korea Carbon to X Project, which are major national projects for carbon capturing and utilization in Korea. Professor Sim has authored three books, six book chapters, and 260 original/review papers, with h index of 58 and 12,000 citations. He awarded National Scientist of the Month, Young Scientist Award in the National Academy of Engineering of Korea, Top 10 Core Technology in Response to Climate Change in the Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning in Korea, etc. He also awarded IBA award from IFIBIOP and Mission Innovation Champion Award from Mission Innovation, EU. In addition, he is currently a member of Editorial Board at several journals including the Bioresource Technology, Energies, and Biosensors. He also awarded the order of science and technological merit from Korea government in 2019.
