Talk title: Poterioochromonas malhamensis: From Pest to Cell Factory

Hu Qiang is the Chair of the Department of Engineering Biology and Chair Professor at the Faculty of Synthetic Biology, Shenzhen University of Advanced Technology, as well as a Visiting Research Fellow at the Institute of Synthetic Biology, Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He serves as an Associate Editor of the international algology journal ALGAE. Previously, he held the positions of President of the International Society for Applied Phycology and Tenured Professor at Arizona State University, USA. He has been listed in the "Top 2% Global Scientists List" and "Lifetime Scientific Impact Ranking". His research interests are phycology and microalgal biotechnology, covering areas including: microalgal cell and molecular biology; genetic modification and germplasm of economically valuable microalgae; design of next-generation large/extra-large photobioreactor systems; large-scale microalgal cultivation technology; development of advanced microalgal cultivation processes based on intelligent microscopic imaging and correlative analysis of multimodal cellular, molecular and physiological characteristics; and applications of microalgal biotechnology in nutrition and grand health, agriculture and food, chemicals, and environmental protection.
