Professor Matthew Lee is Chair Professor of Digital Business & AI and Associate Dean at the Lee Shau Kee School of Business & Administration, Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU). He was a former Vice President and Chair Professor of Information Systems & E-Commerce at the City University of Hong Kong.

His research focuses on how information systems and artificial intelligence shape individual, team, and business behaviors. Key research areas include IT innovation adoption, online marketing and consumer behavior, social networks, technology addiction, human-AI interactions, AI ethics, and relational AI. In particular, he is interested in how relational AI based on Large Language Models affects human well-being, a focus supported by 2 newly funded projects from the HK Research Grants Committee and HKMU.

Professor Lee has published over 200 articles in leading research journals and conferences, with substantial citation impact and a high h-Index of 83. He has successfully initiated and led numerous research projects with substantial funding. Professor Lee’s accolades include the IEE Prize, the Research.com Business and Management in China Leader Award, and a consistent top-15 ranking among business and management scientists in China (Research.com). He is listed among Stanford’s top 2% of the most highly cited scientists globally and ranks in the top 0.05% worldwide in Information Management, according to ScholarGPS.

Professor Lee has a multidisciplinary background, holding 6 university degrees across science, engineering, business, and law. He is qualified as a barrister-at-law in Hong Kong, England, and Wales, and a chartered engineer under the UK Engineering Council. He has served on many research journal editorial boards and top-level public and academic governance bodies, and is currently a council member of the Hong Kong Productivity Council and a member of the Process Review Committee of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.
