Invited speaker: Josef Stráský

Josef Stráský is an Associate Professor at the Department of Physics of Materials, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic. His research expertise lies in the field of advanced metallic materials, with a long-standing focus on metastable β-titanium alloys, their phase transformations, deformation mechanisms, and the design of high-strength alloys for demanding engineering applications. His work has contributed to a deeper understanding of the relationships between processing, microstructure, and mechanical properties in titanium alloys.
More recently, he has been investigating zirconium-based alloys for nuclear systems, particularly the development of novel dual-phase Zr alloys with enhanced strength and improved performance. Because titanium and zirconium share many crystallographic, thermodynamic, and metallurgical similarities, his research seeks to transfer concepts and design principles successfully established in titanium alloys to zirconium-based materials. The ultimate goal is to develop a new class of advanced zirconium alloys that combine excellent mechanical properties with the requirements of nuclear applications. His work integrates alloy design, thermomechanical processing, and advanced microstructural characterization to support the development of next-generation materials for demanding nuclear environments.
